February / 2011
Mauro Cerqueira
born in Guimarães, Portugal, 1982
lives and works in Porto, Portugal
Representative of the new generation of portuguese artists ,he works with sculpture , installation and situations that define an artistic project that comments violence and social conformity.
During the residency period, the artist produced a body of works that were presented at the exhibition "Sem Pé" in February 2011 at Casa Triangulo Gallery.
Presented together, the works of Mauro Cerqueira and Nuno Sousa Vieira reveal some common characteristics and issues, even starting from very different assumptions and procedures. They concern the artistic, architectural and industrial production, and particularly the overproduction, with attendees and performers in this production (such as the gallery´s visitor, the worker or the inhabitant of the city) and especially with the abandonment and obsolescence that are condemned certain structures and professionals, their works reveal and exploit the tension, fragility and precariousness of the current society.
